Terms of Use
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Sentinz. We have tried to write them so that you can actually read them.
Who we are
Sentinz is a trade name of Amstel Serene Real Estate B.V., registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 93294441, VAT number NL866343878B01, at Zilverschoonlaan 4, 1187 EC Amstelveen, the Netherlands. In these terms, “we” and “us” means that company. You can reach us at info@sentinz.com, or from the app (Settings → Feedback). That address is also our contact point under the EU Digital Services Act; write to us in English or Dutch.
You accept these terms by ticking the box on the app’s “Before you start” screen; we keep a record of when you did. How we handle your personal data is described separately in our Privacy Policy.
What Sentinz is
Sentinz is an app for learning Dutch vocabulary. It schedules reviews of the words you study, listens when you use a word in a sentence and gives you feedback, lets you practise spoken conversations, and offers practice versions of the Dutch integration exams.
Sentinz is a learning tool. It is not affiliated with DUO, the IND or any other government body, and practice results in the app are not official exam results. When the app helps you read a letter, it helps with the language; it is not legal, immigration or tax advice about what to do.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to use Sentinz. The app asks you to confirm this before you start; if you are younger, you may not use it, and the app lets you delete your account at once.
- An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Give us an email address that works, so we can reach you about your account and let you reset your password.
Subscriptions and the free trial
Sentinz is offered as a paid subscription, with the plans, prices and billing periods shown in the app before you buy.
- Purchases are made through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period and price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- If you live in the Netherlands or Germany, after the first period you can end a renewed 3-month or yearly plan at any time with one month’s notice: turn off renewal in your device’s Settings and ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com to refund the months after that.
- You can cancel at any time in your device’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Free trial. If a free trial is offered, its length is shown before you start. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it becomes a paid subscription at the price shown. Any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms, at reportaproblem.apple.com. This does not limit any rights you have under consumer law.
- Price changes are communicated through Apple before they apply to you, and where required you will be asked to agree before a higher price is charged.
Plans that include the spoken assistant are meant for normal personal use. We may apply a reasonable limit on assistant time to prevent abuse; if we do, the app will tell you.
Tutor packs
- A tutor pack is a one-off purchase of extra minutes with the tutor, on top of the minutes your plan includes. The app uses your plan’s own minutes first.
- Pack minutes do not expire for as long as your account exists. Minutes included in a plan do not carry over to the next day or month.
- Pack minutes belong to your account. They cannot be moved to another account or exchanged for money, and they end when you delete your account, so use them first.
- If we stop offering the tutor while you still have pack minutes, we will tell you in the app first, and you can ask Apple for a refund of the pack at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Cancelling a purchase
Apple sells the subscriptions and tutor packs and handles cancellations and refunds. If you live in the European Union or the European Economic Area, Apple’s terms give you the right to cancel a purchase within 14 days of receiving the receipt, without giving a reason, at reportaproblem.apple.com. A free trial is part of the subscription it starts. None of this limits your rights under consumer law.
Feedback written by AI
Parts of Sentinz use AI models to judge your sentences, to create cards for new words, to read words from photographs and to hold conversations with you. AI can be wrong. A correction may be mistaken, a translation may be off, and an exam score in the app is an estimate, not a prediction of your real result.
Use the feedback as help with learning, not as authority. We cannot guarantee that using Sentinz will get you through any exam. If you see an answer that is wrong or inappropriate, please report it from the app (Settings → Feedback) or by email; we read every report.
You are talking to AI. The voice tutor, Laura and Daan are AI, not people, and the app tells you so when you meet them. Their voices are made by a computer, and the pictures in the app are made with AI. Laura and Daan are practice partners for your Dutch, not friends, counsellors or a crisis service: if you are in danger, call 112.
What you may not do
- Use Sentinz for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten or harm anyone.
- Try to get around subscription limits, share one subscription between several people, or resell access.
- Copy, scrape or extract the app’s content in bulk, or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law expressly allows it.
- Interfere with the service, overload it, or try to access other people’s accounts or data.
- Deliberately try to make the AI produce harmful content.
- Scan or enter other people’s private details, such as a letter addressed to someone else, unless they agree.
Your content
What you write and say in Sentinz stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only as far as needed to run the app for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. We do not use it to train AI models.
Our content, and your licence to use it
The app, its word lists, sentences, audio, exercises and design belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Sentinz on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by Apple’s Usage Rules, for your own non-commercial learning, for as long as you have an account.
Changes to the app
We keep improving Sentinz, which means features will change, and occasionally one will be removed. We will not take away something essential that you have paid for during a period you have paid for. The app needs an internet connection for most features, and we cannot promise it will always be available without interruption.
If a change makes what you pay for clearly worse for you, we will tell you in the app beforehand. You may then end your subscription within 30 days of the change and, where the law gives you that right, ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com for the part you paid for and can no longer use.
Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting your account in the app (Settings → Delete account). Remember to cancel your subscription with Apple as well; deleting your account does not do that for you.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Where we can, we will warn you first and give you the chance to put it right.
Our liability
We provide Sentinz with care, but to the extent the law allows, it is provided as it is. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as a missed exam, a missed deadline or lost income. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Sentinz in the twelve months before the claim arose.
None of this limits our liability for death or personal injury, for fraud, for damage caused by our intent or gross negligence, or under product liability law, and none of it limits your legal rights when the app does not work as promised, or any other right you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by contract.
Apple
If you downloaded Sentinz from the App Store, the following also applies:
- This agreement is between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for Sentinz and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Sentinz.
- If Sentinz fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Sentinz.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims relating to Sentinz, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection claims, and claims that it infringes someone else’s intellectual property.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- When you use Sentinz, you must also comply with the terms of any third party you use it through, such as your mobile network provider’s.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Dutch law. If something goes wrong, please write to us first; most problems are solved faster that way. Disputes go to the competent court in Amsterdam.
If you are a consumer living outside the Netherlands, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may also bring a claim in the courts there.
These terms exist in several languages. If they differ, the English text applies, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top. For a change that materially affects you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can cancel your subscription and delete your account.
